Until recently “C” class sprint canoeing (High Kneeling) has been the sole domain of men, demonstrated by the fact that there are only men’s events in the current Olympic programme. However there are now indications that this is starting to change. Women are now proving that they too can master the skills and have the dedication to be competitive at world class level. Many countries throughout the world are developing Women’s teams and more and more national and international competitions are including such events for women.
Myself and my C2 partner, Samantha Rippington, are leading the drive to improve the situation in the UK. We have been paddling in C1 and C2 classes for some 4 years now and were the first to recognise these opportunities and the need to correct the imbalance. Our dedication has already brought us significant success both nationally and internationally. A silver and bronze medal in the 2009 ICF World Canoe Sprint Championships and a 6th place at the ICF Sprint World Cup in Hungary in 2010.
We are scheduled to take part in to international events this year in France. International Pas-De-Calais in May & The women’s cup (Olympic exhibition) on 26th & 27th July.

My final is the last race. Slide the timer forward to 06:19 to view. I am in Lane 1 (not lane 6 as the last caption suggests).
